wave
Silent hand greeting
Wave describes a kind of movement, like the one resulting from a disturbance in water in which a ridge moves toward shore.
This inspires other designations, like rhythmic movements of the hand in greeting or farewell, or a recurring and regular oscillation, like radio waves.
The repeating swells of water caused by tides are called waves, and by extension, anything that suddenly swells and then dissipates is also a wave: wave of sadness.
The verb wave characterizes movement that oscillates or that varies in a limited way: a flag waving in the breeze, wave to the fans, wave a magic wand.
If you make waves you disrupt the regularity of a state or process.
