competition
Striving against others
Competition is the act of striving against others for something—a prize, victory, customers, resources, or recognition.
The word covers both the activity and any particular contest: The competition starts at noon.
It also refers collectively to one's rivals: We need to see what the competition is doing.
Competition can be friendly or fierce, and extends from sports and business to evolution, where organisms compete for survival.
