surfgrass
Coastal underwater plant
Surfgrass is any of several marine flowering plants that grow in rocky intertidal and subtidal zones along Pacific coastlines.
Unlike seaweed, surfgrass is a true plant with roots, stems, and long ribbon-like leaves that sway in the waves.
It provides habitat for fish, invertebrates, and other marine life: Tide pools thick with surfgrass shelter small crabs and snails.
