foreshore

Beach between tides

The foreshore is the strip of land between high and low tide marks—the part of a beach that's alternately covered and exposed as the water rises and falls.

In legal contexts, foreshore often includes the area extending to the low-water line, with specific rights attached: The foreshore belongs to the Crown in England.

The term also applies more loosely to any coastal strip near the water's edge.
