oyster beds
Pearl cultivation grounds
Oyster beds are areas of the seabed where oysters grow in dense colonies, either naturally or through cultivation.
The term applies both to wild populations and to commercial operations that farm oysters for food.
The Chesapeake Bay's oyster beds have been depleted by overharvesting and disease.
