rockweed

Bladdered shore algae

Rockweed is any of several coarse brown seaweeds that grow on rocks in the intertidal zone, especially species of *Fucus* with air bladders that keep fronds buoyant at high tide.

Common along North Atlantic coastlines, rockweed provides habitat for small marine creatures and is harvested for fertilizer and animal feed: The rocks were slippery with rockweed at low tide.
