tidelands

Shore between tides

Tidelands are coastal areas alternately covered and uncovered by the rise and fall of tides—the strip between high and low water marks.

The term appears most often in legal and property contexts, where ownership of tidelands has been extensively litigated: The state claimed the tidelands as public trust lands.

Tidelands may also refer more broadly to coastal wetlands and marshes influenced by tidal action.
