sampling
Taking representative portions
Sampling is taking a small portion to represent a larger whole.
In research, you sample a population to draw conclusions without surveying everyone.
In music production, sampling means extracting a snippet from an existing recording to incorporate into a new track: The song samples a 1970s funk bassline.
A sampling of something is a representative selection: Here's a sampling of what we'll cover today.
