tidepool

Coastal rock basin

A tidepool is a small, rocky pool of seawater left behind when the tide recedes.

These isolated pockets along coastlines harbor diverse marine life—anemones, crabs, starfish, small fish—that must survive until the next tide returns.

We spent the afternoon exploring tidepools along the shore.

Also spelled tide pool.
