Distribution by altitude
Zonation is the arrangement or distribution of things into distinct zones or bands.
The term appears most often in ecology, describing how species or communities are distributed in bands according to environmental conditions: the zonation of vegetation on a mountainside, intertidal zonation.
It can apply to any systematic division into zones: the zonation of urban land use.
