tides
Moon-pulled waters
Tides are the regular rise and fall of sea levels caused by gravitational pull from the moon and sun.
High tide and low tide alternate roughly twice daily.
The word extends to any powerful, sweeping movement: a tide of public opinion, the tide of history.
To turn the tide is to reverse momentum.
Something that tides you over sustains you temporarily until conditions improve.
