refuge
Place of protection
Refuge is a place or state of safety, protection, or shelter from danger, trouble, or distress.
Someone fleeing persecution might seek refuge in another country; someone caught in a storm might take refuge under an awning.
The word extends to abstract comfort: Music was her refuge from anxiety.
A wildlife refuge is a protected area where animals are sheltered from hunting or habitat destruction.
To take refuge in something is to turn to it for protection or relief.
