nori

Dried ocean sheets

Nori is edible seaweed, dried and pressed into thin, dark green sheets.

It's the wrapper around sushi rolls and onigiri, and appears shredded as a garnish on rice and noodle dishes.

The flavor is briny and faintly sweet.

I picked up some nori at the Asian grocery.
