Tsar

Pre-revolutionary Russian title

Tsar is a Russian word for emperor, specifically the ruler of Russia before the 1917 revolution.

Also spelled czar.

The title derives from Caesar.

In American English, czar commonly describes someone with broad authority over a particular domain: a drug czar, an energy czar, the administration's new border czar.
