Tsar Nicholas
Last Russian autocrat
Tsar Nicholas refers to one of two Russian emperors.
Nicholas I ruled from 1825 to 1855, known for autocratic conservatism and suppressing the Decembrist revolt.
Nicholas II, the last tsar, reigned from 1894 until his abdication during the 1917 Revolution; he and his family were executed by Bolsheviks the following year.
In casual reference, Nicholas without a numeral usually means Nicholas II: the fate of Tsar Nicholas and the Romanovs.
