revolution
Overthrow of power
Revolution is the verbal noun of revolve, meaning to go around, so the revolution of the earth is the fact of its going around, or one complete instance of this.
Revolution also denotes a fundamental change in the governance of a country, usually sudden and quick, and typically when the people get rid of their current government.
Such revolutions are usually capitalized and have a modifier (French Revolution, Russian Revolution, American Revolution).
A historical or significant change in the way things are done is also a revolution: Machinery was introduced to manufacturing during the Industrial Revolution.
