orthodox
By the book
Orthodox means following established, traditional, or conventional beliefs and practices.
In religion, it describes strict adherence to accepted doctrine: orthodox interpretations of scripture.
More broadly, orthodox applies to any conventional or widely accepted approach: orthodox economic theory, orthodox medical treatment.
The opposite is heterodox or unorthodox. (Capitalized Orthodox refers to specific religious traditions.)
