court
Where trials happen
Most meanings of court refer to institutions.
The most frequent use of court is for the venue of legal procedures—court may refer to the room, the building, or the presiding judge: the lawyer will appear in court, if it may please the court.
Before those meanings arose, court referred to the residence of a sovereign, or the group of people along with the sovereign, who governed: the court of King Henry VIII.
Aside from institutions, court may refer to a space enclosed by buildings on all sides.
To court someone is an old-fashioned way of saying that you are trying to win their affections.
To court something abstract (controversy, disaster, publicity) is to act in a way that will attract it.
