Pulaski

Revolutionary cavalry commander

A Pulaski is a firefighting and trail-building tool combining an axe blade on one side with an adze or grubbing blade on the other, mounted on a single handle.

The dual design allows workers to chop wood and dig soil without switching tools: Wildland firefighters used Pulaskis to cut firebreaks.

Named after a U.S.

Forest Service ranger who popularized its design in the early 1900s.
