imperial
Of an emperor
Imperial describes things relating to empires or emperors—imperial rule, imperial ambitions, imperial power.
The word suggests grandeur, authority, and often domination: the imperial palace, imperial decree.
Imperial measurements are the British system of pounds, feet, and gallons, still used in the United States.
An imperial is also a small pointed beard below the lower lip, named for Napoleon III's style. (Capitalized Imperial often refers to specific historical empires or branded products.)
