keel
Vessel's bottom beam
A keel is the central structural beam running along the bottom of a boat or ship, from bow to stern—the spine that everything else attaches to.
To keel over is to capsize or, for a person, to collapse suddenly: He keeled over from heat exhaustion.
On an even keel means steady and balanced, whether describing a vessel or someone's emotional state.
