sails

Fabric catching wind

Sails are sheets of fabric attached to a ship's mast, catching wind to propel the vessel.

By extension, the blades of a windmill are sails.

To sail is to travel by boat, especially one with sails: We sailed to the island.

More broadly, anything that moves smoothly through air or water sails: The ball sailed over the fence.

To sail through something is to accomplish it effortlessly.
