draft
Cold air leak
Draft, noun, verb, and adjective, has seemingly unrelated meanings, most of which are spelled draught in British English.
The most frequent meaning concerns writing: a draft is a non-final version of a document, subject to revision: The author submitted her draft manuscript to the publisher.
When you draft a text, you write a version of it that will probably be modified later.
Draft legislation is a preliminary version of it.
A draft is also many other things: an unwelcome gust of air (draft through an open window); a process by which a selection is made (first-round draft pick); and an instance of drinking (take a long, cool draft of beer).
If a team drafts a player, it selects them for the team.
If you get drafted, you are conscripted for military service.
