rudder
Tail fin control
A rudder is a flat piece hinged to the stern of a boat or ship, used for steering.
Moving the rudder redirects water flow, turning the vessel.
Aircraft have vertical rudders for the same purpose.
Figuratively, a rudder is anything that provides guidance or direction: Without a clear strategy, the company lacked a rudder.
