submarines
Dive beneath waves
Submarines are vessels designed to operate underwater.
Military submarines carry torpedoes and missiles; research submarines explore ocean depths.
The word also refers to long sandwiches on oblong rolls—also called hoagies, grinders, or heroes depending on region: I ordered a meatball submarine for lunch.
As a verb, to submarine is to undermine something covertly, or in baseball, to pitch with an extreme underhand motion.
