Viking ship
Scandinavian raiding boat
A Viking ship is a wooden vessel built by Scandinavian seafarers during the Viking Age, roughly 800–1100 CE.
These ships featured shallow drafts, overlapping plank construction, and distinctive curved prows—often carved with dragon heads.
Their design allowed both ocean crossings and navigation of rivers, enabling Norse exploration, trade, and raids across Europe and beyond: The Viking ship could sail up shallow rivers to raid inland towns.
