Hammered metal joiners
Rivets are metal fasteners—short pins or bolts with a head on one end, inserted through aligned holes and hammered or pressed on the other end to form a second head, permanently joining materials.
Before welding became common, rivets held together bridges, ships, and aircraft.
As a verb, to rivet is to fasten with rivets, but more often it means to hold someone's attention completely: The audience sat riveted throughout the performance.
Something riveting is utterly engrossing.
