longhouse
Extended tribal hall
A longhouse is a long, narrow dwelling traditionally built by various cultures, most notably the Iroquois of northeastern North America and the Vikings of Scandinavia.
These structures housed extended families or multiple households under one roof, with living spaces arranged along the length of the building.
The Iroquois longhouse became so central to their identity that the confederacy called itself the Haudenosaunee, "People of the Longhouse."
