conquest

Victory through domination

Conquest is the act of taking control of a place or people through military force, or the territory so acquired.

The Norman Conquest of England in 1066 is the most famous example in English-speaking history.

Beyond warfare, conquest extends to any decisive victory or successful effort to overcome: the conquest of disease, the conquest of space.

In romantic contexts, a conquest is someone whose affections have been won, often implying pursuit and triumph rather than mutual attraction.
