Trance-state Norse warrior
A berserker is a warrior who fights with wild, uncontrolled ferocity.
The word comes from Old Norse legends of fighters who entered trancelike battle rages, supposedly wearing bearskins and feeling no pain.
Now it describes anyone who attacks with reckless abandon: He went berserker on the punching bag.
The related phrase go berserk means to lose control violently or frantically.
