neoplasms
Masses of cells
Neoplasms are abnormal growths of tissue, commonly called tumors.
The term covers both benign growths, which stay localized and don't spread, and malignant ones, which are cancerous and can invade other parts of the body.
Medical professionals use neoplasm as a neutral clinical term when the nature of a growth hasn't yet been determined or when speaking generally about abnormal cell proliferation.
The biopsy revealed a benign neoplasm that required no further treatment.
