lesion

Abnormal tissue area

A lesion is an area of abnormal tissue caused by injury or disease—a wound, sore, tumor, or other pathological change.

Doctors speak of skin lesions, brain lesions, lesions on the liver.

The term is broad enough to cover anything from a small cut to a cancerous growth: The MRI revealed a lesion in the frontal lobe.
