blastoma

Immature cell tumor

A blastoma is a tumor arising from embryonic tissue—cells that normally develop into organs during fetal growth but instead proliferate abnormally.

These cancers occur predominantly in children: neuroblastoma (nerve tissue), retinoblastoma (eye), nephroblastoma (kidney), hepatoblastoma (liver).

The suffix -blastoma identifies tumors composed of immature, undifferentiated cells.
