meningioma

Meningeal benign tumor

A meningioma is a tumor that grows from the meninges—the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

Most meningiomas are benign and slow-growing, though they can cause symptoms by pressing on nearby brain tissue: The MRI revealed a small meningioma near the optic nerve.

Treatment ranges from monitoring to surgical removal.
