neoplasia
Uncontrolled cell multiplication
Neoplasia is abnormal, uncontrolled cell growth in the body.
The term covers both benign tumors and malignant cancers—any new tissue formation that serves no physiological purpose and grows independently of normal regulatory mechanisms.
A neoplasm is the growth itself: The biopsy revealed neoplasia in the lymph nodes.
