adenoma
Benign glandular tumor
An adenoma is a benign tumor that forms in glandular tissue—the specialized cells that produce hormones, mucus, or other secretions.
Adenomas commonly develop in the colon, thyroid, pituitary gland, or adrenal glands.
Though noncancerous, some adenomas can grow, cause symptoms by pressing on nearby structures, or occasionally progress to malignancy: The colonoscopy revealed a small adenoma that was removed as a precaution.
