necrosis
Cells dying pathologically
Necrosis is the death of cells or tissue in a living organism, typically caused by injury, infection, or loss of blood supply.
Unlike apoptosis, which is programmed cell death, necrosis is uncontrolled and often harmful—the dead tissue can become gangrenous or spread damage to surrounding areas.
The doctor identified necrosis in the wound and scheduled debridement.
