hemangioma

Benign blood-vessel tumor

A hemangioma is a benign tumor made up of blood vessels, appearing as a red or purplish mark on the skin.

Most common in infants, these growths typically appear shortly after birth and often shrink or disappear on their own over several years.

The pediatrician said the hemangioma on her scalp would likely fade by age five.

Plural: hemangiomas or hemangiomata.
