histology
Microscopic tissue study
Histology is the branch of biology that studies the microscopic structure of tissues.
Where anatomy examines organs visible to the naked eye, histology goes deeper—slicing tissues thin, staining them, and examining cellular architecture under a microscope.
The histology report confirmed the tumor was benign.
The adjective is histological.
