mosaic

Fragments become picture

A mosaic is a picture or pattern made by arranging small colored pieces of stone, glass, or tile into a surface.

The technique dates to antiquity and remains common in decorative arts.

By extension, mosaic describes anything composed of diverse elements: a mosaic of cultures, a genetic mosaic.

In biology, a mosaic organism has cells of different genetic makeup. (Capitalized Mosaic relates to Moses.)
