chlorosis

Plant pigment deficiency

Chlorosis is an abnormal yellowing of plant tissue, typically leaves, caused by insufficient chlorophyll production.

The condition results from nutrient deficiencies (especially iron or nitrogen), poor drainage, or disease: The yellowing leaves showed signs of chlorosis.

In older medical usage, chlorosis referred to a form of anemia in young women, sometimes called "green sickness" for the pallid, greenish complexion it caused—a diagnosis now obsolete.
