glass
Transparent silica product
Glass—the brittle, transparent or translucent silicate compound—is ubiquitous in human life, and the word has many subsidiary meanings.
As a count noun, glass denotes a vessel, often made of glass, for drinking.
These are further classified by size, contents, or other features (juice glass, wine glass, martini glass). A glass may also be a magnifying glass (a lens for enlarging), or in an old-fashioned way, a mirror (a looking glass).
When glass precedes a noun, it typically means it is made of the substance: glass jar, glass shard, glass door.
Glass is not frequent as a verb but has some meanings relating to the material.
