Mosaic law
Ancient Hebrew statutes
Mosaic law is the body of religious and civil laws traditionally attributed to Moses, forming the foundation of Jewish law as recorded in the first five books of the Hebrew Bible.
It encompasses the Ten Commandments along with hundreds of other commandments governing worship, ethics, diet, and daily life.
The phrase appears in discussions of biblical history and the relationship between Jewish and Christian traditions: Under Mosaic law, certain foods were forbidden. (Capitalized Mosaic refers to Moses; lowercase mosaic is an art form made of small tiles.)
