mosaic art
Tessellated visual medium
Mosaic art is the craft of creating images or patterns by assembling small pieces of colored stone, glass, tile, or other materials.
The technique dates to ancient civilizations and appears in floors, walls, and decorative objects.
The pieces, called tesserae, are set into adhesive or grout to form the finished design: Byzantine churches are famous for their mosaic art.
