terracotta

Reddish pottery material

Terracotta is a brownish-orange clay, or objects made from it—pots, tiles, sculptures, architectural ornaments.

The material is fired but unglazed, porous and earthy.

As a color term, terracotta describes that distinctive reddish-brown: terracotta walls, a terracotta sunset.

The word comes from Italian for "baked earth."
