mottling
Patchy color pattern
Mottling is an uneven pattern of spots, blotches, or patches of different colors or shades on a surface.
Skin may show mottling from cold, poor circulation, or illness.
The term applies to marble, fabric, leaves, or any surface with irregular coloring: The mottling on the old photograph suggested water damage.
As a verb form, mottling describes the process of creating or acquiring such patterns.
