Scissors are a hand-held cutting tool with two blades joined at a pivot, operated by squeezing the handles together so the sharpened edges slide past each other.
The word is typically plural even when referring to a single instrument: a pair of scissors, the scissors are in the drawer.
Scissors can also describe a movement where two things cross like scissor blades, as in a scissors kick in swimming or soccer.
To scissor something is to cut it with scissors or to move in a crossing motion.
