electroplating

Electrical metal deposition

Electroplating is the process of coating a surface with a thin layer of metal using electrical current.

The object to be plated is submerged in a solution containing metal ions and connected to a circuit; current causes the metal to deposit onto the surface.

The technique protects against corrosion, reduces friction, or provides a decorative finish: The jewelry was electroplated with gold.
