bare metal
No operating system
Bare metal refers to computer hardware without any operating system or software layer.
In cloud computing, bare metal servers give users direct access to physical hardware rather than virtual machines: We deployed on bare metal for better performance.
The phrase evokes raw, unmediated contact with the machine itself—metal without abstraction.
