immersion

Deep dive in

Immersion is the act of plunging into liquid, or the state of being submerged.

By extension, immersion describes deep involvement in an activity or subject: language immersion programs, total immersion in her research.

The word suggests being surrounded completely, whether by water or by an experience that absorbs all attention.

In some Christian traditions, immersion is baptism by full submersion rather than sprinkling.
